We’ve been lucky enough to work on projects in some pretty incredible places over the years, but I have to say, designing a home in Hawaii is hard to beat! There’s truly nothing quite like Hawaii Interior Design to capture the beauty and spirit of island living.
Our Hawaiian Coastal Villa in Kailua-Kona was such a fun project, not only because of the amazing location (and those views!), but because it’s also a great example of something we’re asked about all the time: Can you work with us if we don’t live in New York?
The answer is absolutely YES! In fact, Hawaii Interior Design projects like these inspire us to say yes even more enthusiastically.
A Little New York Design… All the Way in Hawaii!
One of the things I loved most about this project was that we weren’t trying to make a house in Hawaii feel like it belonged anywhere else. We wanted to embrace everything that was already special about the home and its surroundings and then give it our own fresh, colorful spin tied to that unmistakable feeling of Hawaii Interior Design style.
The house had beautiful classic Hawaiian architecture and gorgeous dark Koa wood throughout. We brought in bold patterns, great color, texture and lots of personality to create rooms that felt fresh and fun, but still completely at home in Hawaii. The balance of classic features and Hawaii Interior Design inspiration helped tie everything together.
We also had the opportunity to work with local Hawaiian workrooms, framers and artisans, which was such an important part of bringing the whole project together. When we’re working on a project outside of New York, finding great local resources and creating a strong team on the ground is key to success in Hawaii Interior Design projects.
But How Do You Design a House Thousands of Miles Away?
You get organized! And for homes requiring Hawaii Interior Design, staying organized is essential.
It might sound daunting to design a home that’s nearly 5,000 miles away from our New York office, but the truth is, so much of what makes any design project successful happens behind the scenes. Especially with Hawaii Interior Design, careful planning is key.
There are floor plans to review, furniture and fabrics to select, custom pieces to design, orders to place, deliveries to track, vendors to coordinate and about a million little details that need to come together at just the right time!
Whether a project is five miles away or 5,000, our job is to keep all of those moving pieces moving. As with any Hawaii Interior Design project, attention to detail is crucial.

Communication is a huge part of that. Between phone calls, emails, video meetings, photos, drawings and our local team, we’re able to keep projects moving forward and make decisions efficiently without our clients ever feeling like they have to manage the process themselves.
And that’s really the goal.
Our clients shouldn’t have to become the project manager just because their home isn’t around the corner from our office. That’s our job! This is especially true in Hawaii Interior Design scenarios, where coordination is everything.
Working With the Best People, Wherever We Go
One thing we’ve learned from working on projects outside of New York is how important it is to combine our design team with talented local resources. For Hawaii Interior Design projects, collaborating with artisans truly elevates the result.
For this home, we were able to work with Hawaiian craftspeople and vendors who understood the area, while we managed the overall design vision, selections and details. The Hawaii Interior Design experience is all about blending these perspectives.
It’s a collaboration that works incredibly well — and it allows us to bring the Libby Langdon Interiors experience to our clients wherever they happen to live!

Indoor-Outdoor Living at Its Best
Of course, when your backyard looks like THIS, the outdoor spaces have to be just as fabulous as the inside! This is where our approach to Hawaii Interior Design really shines.

The home’s incredible setting became a major part of the design. We carried the colors, patterns and relaxed feeling of the interiors outside onto the lanais and outdoor living spaces so everything felt connected. For this, we drew a lot of inspiration from classic Hawaii Interior Design principles and local flair.
The result is colorful, comfortable, a little unexpected and, most importantly, a home our clients could truly enjoy thanks to a custom Hawaii Interior Design strategy.
Near or Far, the Process Still Works!
Hawaii may be an extreme example, but it’s also a great reminder that you don’t necessarily need to choose your interior designer based on who happens to be closest to your house. Our Hawaii Interior Design expertise means we can help from anywhere.
We’ve worked with clients and projects well beyond New York, and the formula really doesn’t change: listen to our clients, create a clear vision, communicate, stay organized and manage all of the details it takes to get the job DONE! No matter where you are, a project like Hawaii Interior Design is always within reach.
Distance doesn’t have to make the design process difficult. Our experience tackling Hawaii Interior Design projects has taught us just that.
With the right team and the right process, it can actually be a lot of fun — and this Hawaiian home will always be one of our favorite examples of Hawaii Interior Design done right!
