It was so much fun to reimagine my client’s small kitchen in their Central Park South pied-à-terre. We started with outdated gold oak cabinets and a teal mosaic backsplash—totally straight out of the ’80s! Since it required a complete demo, I wanted to bring in a whole new palette, featuring lighter, washed sand-colored oak cabinetry paired with a striking backsplash that had dramatic gray and white veining.
To maximize the space, I reworked the placement of the stove and microwave. We opted for fewer drawers and more cabinetry, then updated the hardware for a fresh look. The lighting scheme also needed a complete overhaul. We added task lighting in the ceiling as well as under-cabinet lighting. This lighting helped to highlight the backsplash, countertops, and the lighter cabinetry finish.
It’s a dramatic transformation in a very small space, but the result looks fantastic and is incredibly functional for our client!
