The Home in Austin, Texas
This is a wonderful home I had the opportunity to design in Austin, Texas. The traditional Colonial style brick home was incredibly different from any other project I had ever worked on.
I'd never done a job in Texas and was super excited to do something in a completely different part of the country!
My clients were a young family that wanted a stylish, hip look but not too modern, and they wanted it to be comfortable and functional for their children as well (3 little ones all under the age of 6)! This was also a great chance to have some fun with the kid's rooms.
Designing a Traditional Colonial Style Brick Home
It was a large house with lots of different living spaces, my clients bought it from an older couple who'd lived there for about 20 years, when I first saw it, it was decorated in an incredibly traditional style. My clients had lived in a southwestern type home before purchasing this one and they wanted to go in a completely different design direction.
Dining, Hallway and Kitchen
I pretty much started from scratch with their furnishings except for their dining table and dining room rug. The table was a gorgeous, big dining table with oversized, ornately carved legs, very much in a southwestern style. They loved the table but were worried about it working with their newer, updated style. We combined it with some sleek, modern upholstered dining chairs and it's a great look!
I wanted their hallway to feel like a gallery with simply framed black and white photographs of their kids for a clean look. Their kitchen was freshened up with a bright yellow wall color and features a small kids table and chairs for the littlest "diners". I also framed some of the kid's artwork that can be switched out when they create something new!
